La serpiente y la bota es una instalación realizada a partir de la apropiación de un grabado del siglo XIX, encontrado en el diario de viaje del explorador inglés James Mudie Spence, en su paso por Venezuela entre 1871 y 1872. En la historia que acompaña a la imagen original, una serpiente muerde una bota de cuero y el veneno la hace crecer hasta convertirse en iglesia, haciendo referencia a un momento histórico de Venezuela donde las guerras civiles y los desencuentros del gobierno militar con la iglesia católica estuvieron presentes continuamente por más de 25 años. La reinterpretación y contextualización de esta imagen en el presente plantea una relación histórica con una Venezuela donde el veneno, las armas, las botas militares y los eventos inexplicables se justifican a través de pensamientos que exceden a la razón.
La serpiente y la bota [The Snake and the Boot] is an installation created from the appropriation of a 19 th Century print found in the travel journal of the English explorer James Mudie Spence, which records his journey through Venezuela between 1871 and 1872. In the story that accompanies the original image, a snake bites a leather boot and the poison makes it grow until it becomes a church, thus referencing a historic moment in Venezuela, when the civil wars and the conflicts between the military government and the Catholic Church continued for over 25 years. The reinterpretation and contextualization of this image in preset times proposes a historical relationship with Venezuela where the poison, arms, military boots, and strange phenomena are justified through thoughts that exceed logical thinking.
